[Law Schools: All]
[Graduation Year: All]

Law Preview did three very important things for me: (1) It made me understand to value my time like it was gold, and how to organize my studies for maximum effect; (2) It helped me deterine how to be prepared from Day 1 of law school. I did not waste valuable time during my first few weeks of law school figuring out what I needed to do; and (3) It demystified law school exams and taught me how to proactively prepare for exams, and how to get the information I needed to do well on them. [Ranked top 15% after first year].

I definitely think Law Preview helped me hit the ground running first semester. I gained a great understanding of how to do the "everyday things" necessary to succeed in law school. Without it, I would have spent the first few months of school trying to figure out law school. I also think the focus (Don's focus) on basically devoting yourself for 8 months was a great motivator, especially since I didn't know that the first year counted for so much.

[Law Preview] prepared me to hit the ground running in the first semester by giving me confidence in the case method and the law school environment.

Law Preview mentally prepared me for the rigors of the first semester and provided me with various tips and tools that gave me a competitive advantage over other students. [Ranked 6 out of 226].

I felt prepared from day one to do what I had to do. The plan was before me: my only difficulty was in sticking to it. [Ranked 1 out of 226].

Law Preview gave me confidence and a sense of what to expect. Though I didn't follow Don's advice to study 12 hours a day, I did consider that other students might study that much and that pushed me to study more. Also, I think Law Preview helped me study smarter and not waste my time doing things that probably aren't too helpful.

I was a Law Preview student at your second Loyola session last year. I ended up going to the University of Iowa Law School (Boyd Hall), and the first semester has gone exceptionally well. So, thank you for setting up such a helpful program. The people at the law school are extraordinarily bright, and after exams, I thought I was doomed. Yet I managed to scrape by with a 3.85, and was the number one scorer in both Legal Writing and Contracts; I was the tied as the number three scorer in Torts, and the number 12 scorer (out of 90) in Property (A-). I could not have asked for much better last semester, though I'm keeping nose to the grindstone and continuing to follow your 'plan' for this semester.

Law Preview gave me an excellent base to build upon throughout the year. I believe I had somewhat of a head start on my classmates in terms of familiarity with the main subject material. Although I did not always brief my cases or strictly adhere to the study suggestions, I did use Law Preview's methods to outline and prepare for and write exams. Law Preview was certainly a beneficial experience [rank #1 out of 211].

Without Law Preview, I would have had no clue what to expect from my first semester. Instead, I felt a step ahead of all the other students. I had a plan of action to attack all the work, and I knew what the professors were looking for in classes. The price paid for Law Preview paid off. I ended up in the top ten percent of my class after the first semester with A's in three out of my five classes.

After first semester I was ranked 10th in my class and I wanted to write to tell you how Law Preview contributed to my success. As a non-traditional student who left the work force to return to law school, Law Preview enabled me to start using my time productively from the very beginning of law school. Law schools are full of brilliant and hard working students. But Law Preview enabled me to start playing the game from the first day. For many of my classmates, it seemed to take at least a month for them to know enough about the law to understand the reading and class materials. Law Preview provided the foundation that enabled me to start building right away. Also, for many students who didn't have the advantage of Law Preview, it seemed to take until mid-terms to understand this was not like any other college or even post-graduate experience they'd ever had. And if you don't kick it into gear until mid-terms, you feel like you're playing catch-up, which eats away at your confidence when you need it the most. I would recommend Law Preview to any incoming 1-L's. It provides you with confidence, skills, and realistic expectations which will put you a step above many of your classmates. And as law schools operate on a competitive basis, that step up is invaluable.

Law Preview gave me the luxury of being able to read and understand the class material from day one, instead of spending the first two weeks learning how to read and digest the cases. While my classmates were "learning how to learn," I was processing the information and building my outlines from the first day of clases.

Law Preview was an invaluable experience to me. I highly recommend the class, especially if you've been out of school for a couple of years and need to get back in the swing of things. This program got me into a focused academic mindset, prepared me for law school's massive workload, and gave me the confidence that I could handle everything my professors might throw at me. . . . I just completed interviews for my 2L summer, and received offers from eight big DC law firms, including Cleary Gottlieb, Hogan & Hartson, and Wilmer Hale. I could not be more thrilled and I knowthe vast majority of my success is due to my GPA (4.06 after 2 semesters at Maryland Law), which I credit in part to the Law Preview program. Thanks for preparing me to excel in law school!

Law Preview taught me what to expect in law school and how to handle the intense workload. I think there were two key components. First, the class gave me the tools to be successful academically. Second, the class helped me prepare my friends and family for my upcoming year so I could avoid any social conflicts during the year.

I walked in the first class and was not lost. Law Preview helped get rid of all the fog that is 1L.

Overall, the program helped me know what to expect so that I had a sense of confidence amongst the stress and overwhelming atmosphere of the first year of law school. The session on outlining and final exam tips gave me an edge on my classmates because I began outlining early in the second month of classes, which left me ample time to take practice exams and meet with professors during study period. Also, the workshop on extra curricular activities and recruitment was helpful because I avoided the temptation of getting involved in student groups my first year and allowed me to focus more on my classwork to position myself for fall on campus recruitment!

The week I spent at the Chicago Law Preview was long and challenging, BUT I cannot emphasize enough how much better I felt while at 1L Orientation for my school. While everyone was losing years off their lives trying to learn how to brief a case in addition to worrying about the subject matter, requirements, and hours of dedication needed for each course, I breezed through Orientation and the first few weeks of school with significantly less stress than I would have suffered had I not gone to Law Preview. Moreover, Don's talks in particular prepared me to deal with the mind games played by professors and students. While I was unable to spend the recommended 8 hours/day of studying, I was satisfied with my first-semester performance. Most importantly, however, I credit Law Preview with giving me the overarching perspective needed to keep each first-year course in perspective. If you have the time and the means, I highly recommend doing Law Preview - it can only help you!
—AJ L., University of Memphis—Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, Class of 2010

Law Preview was crucial to my success in the 1L year. First, it demystified the whole "law school experience". Close interaction with professors and staff enable us to see what professors will really be getting at in class - and what they will really be looking for come exam time! Second, Law Preview provides a strong foundation for how to approach legal study. In addition to introducing the subject areas that a 1L is bound to encounter, they also focus on things like study skills, how to conduct legal research, and how to work with an eye towards exams - all crucial skills! Finally, Law Preview is not just a class, but a continuing relationship. The e-mails and advice throughout the year help to provide encouragement and keep you on track when you're in the thick of it all. All in all, there is no way I would have begun law school without the benefit of Law Preview!

Law Preview helped me during my first year of law school by teaching me the necessary skills to stay organized, on track, and focused on my ultimate goal of success. By going through study skills, exam taking skills, and also individual class topics, I learned the steps I needed to take before the first day of classes. I felt very prepared to start classes and get right into my study schedule while my classmates were still trying to learn the best approach. The class was very helpful and I would recommend it to anyone who wants the extra confidence and preparation.

University of Miami doesn't rank the 1L class until after the Spring Semester. However, I received a 3.75/4.0, which I was very pleased with. I definitely believe that attending Law Preview had a lot to do with my success. Law Preview taught me that is was necessary to put in more hours than I could have ever imagined. Without knowing that it takes that type of effort to do well I may have never put in the extra time, because I did not see all my peers spending that much time on a day to day basis. At times it did feel as if the tips from Law Preview created another source of stress, because it was hard to keep up with the Law Preview schedule. However, when it was all said and done I have to contribute a large portion of my success to what I learned at Law Preview.

The [Law Preview] program allowed me to start law school with a game plan. It helped me to set a weekly schedule, stay disciplined and gain a leg up on my fellow students. I had been out of school for a while before going back to law school, and the Law Preview helped me refresh old, and gain new study skills. We are not ranked after our first semester, but I ended with a 3.81 GPA.
