[Law Schools: All] [Graduation Year: All]

The course let me know what to expect coming into Law School. I was more prepared mentally for the challenge and rigor of 1L year.

—Anonymous, Boston University School of Law, Class of 2008

I took Law Preview in NYC last summer, and just completed my 1st year at Brooklyn. The numbers from 2nd semester came in this past week: A's in Con Law, and Civ Pro, and A- in Contracts, Property, and Legal Writing. GPA is 3.78. Not bad for someone who walked out of every exam sure that he bombed it. Anyway, your class was a huge help. Keep up the good work.

—Dan S., Brooklyn Law School, Class of 2005

It was extremely helpful. I knew what it expect and was able to delve right into briefing cases appropriately, being prepared for class, and knowing what to anticipate on exams. Thanks!

—Anonymous, Brooklyn Law School, Class of 2008

[Law Preview] made me very skilled at reading and briefing cases, taught time management and emphasized just how much work and how much of a commitment law school was.

—Jessica Z., Brooklyn Law School, Class of 2009

I was far more prepared for the basics of law school (reading cases, briefing, etc.) than most of my peers. In addition, the first few weeks weren't nearly as "scary" for me as I know they were for many other people! Having the chance to read many key cases for each class (i.e. Pallsgraf v. LIRR, for Torts) gave me a definite advantage. The roadmap for each course I had after Law Preview made the semester more predictable, and thus easier to manage. I also knew the importance of continuing to brief cases, even when most of my classmates had stopped. Lastly, you can't underestimate the value of those helpful tips (like getting your prof's old exams during the FIRST week of class rather than the last, when everyone else is trying to do it too!)

—Sarah M., Brooklyn Law School, Class of 2009

We aren't ranked until the end of the academic year - my fall GPA was a hair under 3.5. The best advantage coming from Law Preview was having an understanding of what a good exam will read like. So many students want to find the right answer right away, and then stick to their guns. If anything, Socratic Method questioning can reinforce this mistake. But being able to enter school knowing that it is actually wise to seek out, understand, and embrace all sides of an argument was a valuable skill. It was also helpful to have read some of the "greatest hits" cases before classes started.

—Jeremy R., Brooklyn Law School, Class of 2010

It really helped me get into the right mindset -- I devoted myself entirely to law school. Of course law school is 'hard' but Law Preview gave me the formula to succeed. I got straight A's.

—Anonymous, Brooklyn Law School, Class of 2011

There is no real way to be prepared for the law school experience but Law Preview was still a boost. The knowledge of what was to come, what was expected of me and some tricks for survival gave me a leg up on the other students. Law Preview's follow up throughout the year kept me motivated and focused on my goals.

—Anonymous, Brooklyn Law School, Class of 2010

Law Preview helped because I went into law school familiar with reading cases and writing briefs. I felt well prepared for my classes. Please note that my law school does not rank until the end of the year. My first semester GPA was a 3.8

—Marisa P., Brooklyn Law School, Class of 2011

Law Preview greatly helped with my first semester law school experience in many ways. First of all I came into law school knowing what I needed to do. I had an idea of what the schedule would be like and how much work would be involved. Also, I utilized some of the Law Preview tools such as the semester calendar to help me plan when to do my work and how to get things done efficiently. Lastly, it was always helpful when some of the cases that we had read came up in class, I felt like I was one step ahead because I already had a basic understanding of what was going on.

—Nicole B., Brooklyn Law School, Class of 2011

Law Preview's greatest advantage is the mind set they help you to be in going into your 1L. You understand the challenge ahead, you've mapped out your goals and your schedule, and 1L just turns into several months of execution. Law Preview relieves a lot of the stresses and fear of the 1L unknown for you before you even start, which is great because you can focus on doing well from day 1 with little adjustment period. Law Preview isn't magic, you still need to work hard to do well. What Law Preview really does is make you fully aware of that point and gives you the tools to really hit the ground running from day one.

—Anonymous, Brooklyn Law School, Class of 2011

Law Preview prepared me remarkably well for law school. I had no idea what to expect coming to law school and law preview showed me important tips to succeed. I found that some of the most helpful tools were the Law Preview tips on how to work out your schedule and how to brief cases effectively. Also, it was really helpful that I came to law school already understanding some of the most important cases in each first year subject. Overall Law Preview was a wonderful experience and I would recommend it highly to any incoming first year law students.

—Nicole B., Brooklyn Law School, Class of 2011

There are so many law school legends about the first year of law school - enough to put the fear of God in you. Law Preview took away that fear. I absolutely recommend Law Preview to anyone planning to attend law school.

—Elizabeth R., California Western School of Law, Class of 2005

Law Preview not only introduced me to a number of cases that were discussed in my first semester, but it also provided an opportunity to become comfortable with the terminology and style of learning required for law school. Where many other students in my class struggled to learn how to read cases and brief them, I could concentrate on the substance of what I was learning. This is soley attributable to my experience with Law Preview. My parents are still saying that Law Preview was some of the best educational money they have ever spent.

—Cara W., Capital University Law School, Class of 2009

I have many good things to say about Law Preview, and I also got the grades to show that I applied what I learned there. . . . I attribute a great deal of my academic success (first semester Dean’s Honor List) to your program. The strengths of Law Preview for me included the emphasis on briefing, examination preparation, and the availability of a law student for questions and interaction. My briefs during my first semester were higher quality than my classmates because practicing during Law Preview made me able to pick out the important points of cases and thus be well-prepared for class. Our discussions at Law Preview about how to take law school exams made me feel confident, and this cool-headedness allowed me to focus on writing good answers instead of panicking and writing rambling and unorganized essays. Lastly for purposes of this letter, but definitely not the last advantage – there were too many to write in this letter – was being able to ask [your student assistant] questions. She was available to answer all those “stupid questions” I didn’t want to ask in class, and she made me feel like I knew what I was getting myself into. This is stark contrast to the average 1L who has no idea what to expect.

—Laura H., Case Western Reserve University School of Law, Class of 2006

I'm not sure what my rank is. My school only ranks 1Ls at the end of the academic year. My grades after first semester were: A in Contracts, A in Crim Law and A- in Torts. The top 10% gets A's and the next 15% get A-'s. . . . I am very happy that I attended Law Preview for the following reasons: practice reading and briefing cases; having some briefs already written at the beginning of law school; knowing what some of the seminal cases are about in each subject area; getting it beaten into my head that I need to actually brief all the cases (which I did); doing the reading two days ahead so I never got behind, even if something came up; learning about reporter names, how to tell where a case is from, research strategies; having the confidence at the beginning of the semester that I knew what I was doing . . . Being in Law Preview was really exciting because it confirmed for me that I find the law interesting and that law school was the right decision for me. Also, having confidence at the beginning of the semester is a huge advantage. Even if by the end of the semester it seemed like everyone else was comfortable with the material, etc., I still think I benefited by being calmer/more confident right from the beginning.

—Anonymous, Case Western Reserve University School of Law, Class of 2011

It helped me learn how to approach and brief cases for their maximum educational value, while building confidence in my abilities to be a successful law student.

—Erin F., Case Western Reserve University School of Law, Class of 2011

I think that Law Preview helped be to really develop the basics that are absolutely essential to succeeding in the first year of law school. I found advice regarding when to start your outlines, planning ahead and time management to be extremely valuable. Law school is all about staying on top of everything and I think that Law Preview teaches you how to accomplish that.

—Pratibha K., Catholic University of America—Columbus School of Law, Class of 2008

I think what helped me the most was the fact that I had a good idea of what I would be facing in law school. Law Preview gave me insights as to how to read for class, how to study for finals, and probably most importantly what my law professors would be looking for. I think all of my classmates eventually learned what I had learned over the summer but I was able hit the ground running the first day of orientation. I also knew what activites I needed to avoid so I could dedicate myself my first year. Finally, there were little bits and pieces of advice that I would remember throughout the year that kept me going when I felt overwhelmed.

—Anonymous, Catholic University of America—Columbus School of Law, Class of 2008

The most valuable aspects of Law Preview included the overall introduction it gave me to the 1L curriculum; Prof. Scordato's tips on first year success and exam preparation; and my first experience with the Socratic method. For many 1L's, the biggest hurdle they'll need to overcome is their own anxiety. I was one such 1L. Law Preview gave me a safe forum to ask questions, explore options and network with other students in the same situation as myself.
