kay, so you took the LSAT and made it to law school. What now? Well, few students realize that what is even more important than your LSAT score is your first year GPA. Your first year GPA is essential to getting that coveted high-paying summer internship following your second year in law school, which in turn sets you up for a six figure salary following graduation. Additionally, a high first year GPA can also qualify you to transfer to a higher-ranked law school, which essentially negates a low LSAT score and increases your chances of employment following graduation. But that is easier said than done. The truth is, one needs a leg up on the competition. For me, that was Law Preview. I was an engineer in undergrad and did not do that well on the LSAT. However, Law Preview helped me learn the skills I needed to learn, and put together a plan of attack for my first year. I ended my first year of law school ranked in the top 5% of my class, which lead to me transferring from Penn State to UC Davis (at the time, it was a jump from #92 to #32). Not only that, but because of my stellar first year grades, I was able to land that high-paying summer internship as well. Without the help of Law Preview, I definitely would not have experienced such success. Furthermore, the faculty and students were great, and I still keep in touch with many of them. It is a unique experience that I would recommend to any future law student. With the help of Law Preview, you WILL succeed in law school!

I believe Law Preview helped me a lot once I was in law school. I don't know my class rank yet, but my GPA for this semester is a 3.7, which, assuming the rankings are a bit higher than the rankings for the class of 2009, my GPA should put me solidly in the top 10% of the class. Law Preview helped mostly because it took away some of the fear of the unknown about the skills I'd need to do well in law school. The work itself this semester was nowhere near as bad as the unknown and having some familiarity with the process of reading and briefing cases, the Socratic method, and exam prep, helped remove a lot of that fear. Plus, it was great to have already read some of the semester's trickiest cases a couple times before the semester began (especially Palsgraph); just thinking about those concepts on my own before the heat of the semester started gave me an advantage. For some courses, it was also helpful to see another professor's views on the same subject matter, as it helped me tailor my outlines to my teacher's take on the law. As tempting as it was to think of the law in terms of right and wrong answers, and to just learn the rules, law preview helped me stay focused on the analysis, and how I would use the rules in new situations. Having experienced other perspectives before the semester began gave me the freedom to play with the rules we'd get from the cases and make them my own; this way, I had the chance to spend more effort on exam time management.

I entered law school with a much better understanding of what to expect than most students. Pepperdine had an extremely helpful, and I believe, unusually long 1L orientation. The orientation definitely provided a lot of information about what was coming and how to handle it. Even with that, most students did not fully understand the importance of actively learning while they read the daily assignments. They may have briefed the cases, but many did not really spend the time going over the material thoroughly enough to teach it to themselves before class. Thanks to Law Preview, I went in knowing the importance of understanding the reading. That skill was a life save for me when November rolled around, and my class-time attention span seriously waned. It also made so that when finals came around, and I had a suffocating amount of stuff going on in my personal life, I was still able to do pretty well because I had much left to learn than a lot of the class.

My school does not rank 1L's until the end of the year in the spring. Law Preview helped me to anticipate what each class was going to be like, as well as what law school in general would entail. The transition into law school was much smoother because of Law Preview. I didn't have to spend much time figuring out how to outline and brief and I even understood the material better because of the framework and conceptual overview that Law Preview provided in the substantive areas. I just had to email you because I thought the legal research and writing day was outstanding. I had already handed in my evaluation sheet so I figured I'd put it in an email. Professor Harrison was great. I had a couple of overviews on the research end in undergrad and it never really clicked for me but he was able to get me there. I wrote a couple of papers actually and cited cases but never Shepardized them. I feel confident I'll be able to research very well now and will be able to give my other courses more attention and LR&W a little less in the beginning of the year. Also, I had read that sample Legal memorandum before and had trouble understanding the question presented and was like "I'll never be able to write something like that." But Professor Harrison was critical of the memo's author and some other things which made me feel a lot better. Also the handout you get to keep on the subject was great. I'll be using that all 3 years I think. I am really glad that I took the course, it was excellent and I think anyone who does not take that 6th day for LR&W is really missing out.

We are not given our class rankings - but I received high honors my second semester. Law Preview was essentially a mini 1L experience over the course of several days. This provided a frame of reference which illustrated not only what could be expected in terms of the academic content of the classes but also what the most effective study habits were for conquering the material and all important final exam essays.
