The Law Preview Scholars Program
Top law firms understand their lawyers must be as diverse as the public in order to best serve and retain their clients. That is why these firms, and many in the legal profession at large, have made it a top priority to improve racial, ethnic and gender diversity among practicing attorneys. In April 2008, more than 40 general counsel executives of Fortune 500 companies and 100 managing partners of top law firms convened The Call to Action Summit in Arizona to develop specific measures to improve diversity in the legal profession.Law Preview shares the vision for greater diversity in the legal profession and is actively working to achieve this essential goal. By working closely with law firms and top law schools through our Scholars Program, we are helping to build a pipeline of emerging legal talent comprised of groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession. These socially conscious law firms pay for Law Preview Scholars -- incoming first-year law students -- to attend one of Law Preview's summer prep programs free of charge so that they can learn from the nation's leading law school professors and attorney-lecturers what to expect and how to succeed in law school.
In 2010, four of the nation's largest law firms have generously agreed to sponsor Law Preview Scholars at select law schools:
- Vinson & Elkins LLP will be sponsoring students admitted to The University of Texas School of Law;
- Baker Botts LLP will be sponsoring students admitted to Duke University School of Law;
- Clifford Chance LLP will be sponsoring students admitted to The University of Virginia School of Law; and
- Bracewell & Guiliani LLP will be sponsoring students admitted to The University of Houston Law Center.
